Nanded: A woman committed suicide along with her 3-year-old son, unable to bear her husband’s death due to Covid. The incident took place in Maharashtra’s Loha town. The woman resorted to the extreme step by jumping into a pond, a day after her husband’s death. The family had come to Loha from Ammapuram in Andhra Pradesh in search of livelihood. The couple used to eke out a living by selling mats and working as labourers and depended on daily wages for their daily bread. In such a situation, the mini lockdown declared by the Maharashtra government added to their woes. As they struggled to make ends meet, the husband who tested positive for COVID-19 was admitted to the Covid centre in Loha. He died after three days. Shocked by the devastating news of her husband’s death, the woman unable to comprehend her future, committed suicide along with her 3-yr old son, orphaning their son and daughter. The police said that the woman took the extreme step out of helplessness. She was worried about the survival of the family after the death of her husband, as she had to take care of her three children. Loha police, therefore, registered a case under accidental death.
