Mumbai: An engineer working with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), along with one other person, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday.The accused BMC worker has been identified as Sandip Gite (41) and his accomplice as Muzaffar Babuali Sayyed alias Bablu (47).The incident came to light when the complainant in the case, who is involved in fishing activities, wanted to construct a godown at the Sassoon Docks. To build this godown, he hired Bablu, who eventually introduced him to Gitefor sanctioning permissions. Gite then demanded a sum of Rs 27 lakh from the complainant, in return for granting him permission to build the godown. Later, the amount was settled at Rs 25 lakhs. The engineer said that the money should be handed overto Bablu.However, the complainant had already reached out to the ACB post his meeting with Gite. When Bablu accepted the first installment of Rs 5 lakhs and gave it to Gite, the ACB which had already laid a trap, caught the duo red-handed.Both the accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
