New Delhi: As the number of coronavirus infections has increased in Delhi, there has also been an increase in the death toll, with over 1000 people having died in the past 3 days. With the increase in the death toll, there is a shortage of space in crematoriums, and hence mass cremations are being held in open places. Hundreds of people were cremated under the open sky in the parking area of Ghazipur Crematorium Ghat in East Delhi. The visuals of lit pyres are indeed distressing. The East Delhi Municipal Corporation has constructed temporary crematoriums as all 48 crematoriums in Ghazipur are working beyond their capacity. Despite all this, hundreds of those dead, most of them due to coronavirus have been cremated simultaneously in the parking area of the crematorium. Even at 9 pm, hundreds of pyres were seen burning in the Ghazipur crematorium. According to figures listed by East Delhi Municipal Corporation, a total of 41 people were cremated as per coronavirus protocol till 5 pm on Monday. However, according to Sushil, the head priest of Ghazipur crematorium ghat, hundreds were cremated as per Covid protocol.
